Darren Sammy

Darren Sammy

Allrounder Darren Sammy broke into the West Indies team for the first time in July 2004, but his debut against New Zealand proved somewhat of a false start, with the match abandoned due to wet weather without a ball being bowled. His second chance came two months later against Bangladesh, when he took 1-19. Sammy has played more than 120 ODIs for West Indies, with nine fifties including a high-score of 89. He has also collected 81 wickets with his medium-fast bowling, including 4-26 in 2010. Sammy played seven matches during the 2011 Cricket World Cup, where he picked up two three-wicket hauls. Sammy also captained West Indies to the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 victory against Sri Lanka, their first major trophy for 8 years.

Darren Sammy was the first West Indian Captain in 33 years to lift a world title after winning the World T20 in 2012.
